5 of the Most Bike-Friendly Cities in the Country

Here at E-Lux Bikes, we love talking about bikes and bike friendly places. We received a lot of positive responses with our past blog articles on great bike trails, biking in national parks and on converted railways, and top cities to explore by electric bikes. We're continuing that theme to help our followers find the best places to ride and enjoy being outdoors. Here we tackle some of the most bike friendly cities across the United States. These are places that make biking a priority.

One of the great things about electric bikes is that they allow you to cruise around cities both big and small with ease. If you want to take your bike on a sightseeing tour of the country, you need to know which cities will be easy to see from the comfort of your bike seat. PeopleForBikes, a bike advocacy organization, has ranked various cities based on safety, network, reach, acceleration and ridership. Which cities ranked well?

1. Fort Collins, Colorado

Fort Collins has over 285 miles of bike trails. You can cruise around the city on the wide bike lanes to visit the downtown area or a local brewery. If you're feeling a bit more adventurous, you can check out one of the mountain biking trails. Fort Collins even boasts a trail that follows the Poudre River. If you don't want to pack your own electric bike, the city offers a bike share program called Pace that allows you to rent a cycle for short-term use.

2. Portland, Oregon

As you ride around Portland, you'll quickly recognize how bike friendly the area is. Many of the neighborhoods have route signs and other bike-related markings to ensure locals and visitors know exactly where they're going. You can start mapping out your bike route before you get to Portland thanks to their interactive trail map. If you don't have room for your own bike, you can rent one through the local bike share program, Biketown.

3. Wausau, Wisconsin

Even small cities can offer a lot to bicyclists. Wausau offers mountain and city trails in the nearby vicinity. The city even has a bicycle club, the Wausau Wheelers. The club often hosts weekly road rides and other special events.

4. Minneapolis, Minnesota

Minneapolis offers over 129 miles of on-street bike paths and 97 miles of off-street trails. The city's bike share program, Nice Ride, has 3,000 bikes which can be found at 400 stations across the Twin Cities area. While there are plenty of paths to get you around downtown, you could also check out some nature trails that take you through some of the local parks.

5. Tucson, Arizona

In Tucson, you can hop on the Loop, which is a 131-mile network of paved paths and trails that can only be used by pedestrians, cyclists and equestrians. The city also offers road-sharing paths and mountain biking trails. If you can't bring your cycle, the city offers a bike sharing program called TUGO.

When visiting a new city, you can see a lot from two wheels. Whether you ride the trails on an electric or traditional bike, you're sure to enjoy yourself in some of the most bike-friendly cities in the country.
