Ever wonder how far an e-bike can go? Here's what some manufacturers don't want you to know.

You may have heard it. "Our EBikes get 165 miles on a charge!” or “Our EBikes get 200 miles on a charge." Come on. Really?

But think about this. If you are on one of our bikes and just turn on the light and pedal the whole time without using the motor, you could go 500 miles on a charge. Manufacturers can say anything they want when it comes to range but we're all still limited by the same laws of physics.

So to really understand range, you need constants. They'll help you cut through the bull.

So if the constants are all the same, then the range is the same no matter who makes the bike. So here are your constants in a simple formula to figure it out. First. You want good quality battery cells like Panasonic or Samsung.

Second, you want a 48-volt battery, which is the most common.

Third, a 500-watt motor. It's also the most common.

Fourth, say you're going 15 miles an hour on a flat surface.

That gives you about two and a half miles per amp hour. A 10 amp-hour battery gets 25 miles on a charge, and a 20 amp-hour battery gets 50 miles on a charge. Now, you know, don't buy into the malarkey.
